Most Anticipated Korean Films of 2016

25. Fabricated City
조작된 도시
Dir: Park Kwang-hyun (Welcome to Dongmakgol, 2005)
Cast: Ji Chang-wook (Death Bell 2: A Bloody Camp, 2010), Shim Eun-kyoung (Miss Granny, 2014)
Production: TPS Company
Distribution: CJ Entertainment
Filming Dates: 2015-07-01 ~ 2015-12-29
Status: Post-Production
Genre: Action

Plot: An jobless youth is an ace gamer, but when he’s framed for murder, he needs the help of a hacker to uncover the mystery behind his predicament.

What to expect: It’s now been 11 years (!!!) since modern classic Welcome to Dongmakgol and Park Kwang-hyun is finally back in the saddle. Granted, he’s been trying to set up big budget martial arts drama Kwon Bob for the last few years but I guess something gummed up the works there and he decided to do something in the meantime. Will need a better look before I get excited about Fabricated City, particularly as much of the success of his debut was likely due to writer-producer Jang Jin.

When can we see it? Difficult to tell where this will land in CJ’s busy lineup. A spring release isn’t out of the question, but they could also push it all the way back to October or November.
