Most Anticipated Korean Films of 2016

18. Our Love Story
연애담
Dir: Lee Hyun-ju (1st Film)
Cast: Lee Sang-hee, Ryu Sun-young
Production: Korean Academy of Film Arts
Distribution: M-Line Distribution
Filming Dates: 2015
Status: Completed
Genre: Drama

Plot: A diffident art student prepares for a project. While searching for materials, she meets a carefree bartender and cautiously enters into a relationship with her.

What to expect: A low-key lesbian drama from the Korean Academy of Film Arts (KAFA), after they have focused on more commercial works in the last year or two (something of a conflict of interest, truth be told), Our Love Story has the ingredients to act as a voice for certain minorities in Korea. KAFA’s track record is of course very impressive, as they haven’t made a bad film yet (though I haven’t seen all of them).

When can we see it? Probably a festival bow in spring or summer (perhaps in Jeonju).
